Y Strainers protect downstream process system components by mechanically removing unwanted solids from gas lines by means of a wire mesh straining element.

Y Strainers are available with either a flanged or threaded connection. It is important to have a Y Strainer installed as close to the inlet side of the mechanical or electrical fire suppression system gas shut off valve as possible. The Y Strainer should be cleaned as often as necessary. Failure to install and maintain a Y Strainer could not only result in the valve not operating as designed but also will void the warranty on the gas valve.
